Alert! Defamation Law Reforms – Commence 1 July 2021
On 1 July 2021, new defamation laws will commence in Victoria, NSW and South Australia. This session will cover the changes to defamation laws and the impact of other states and territories not mirroring these reforms.
Our presenter will provide an update on the changes, including:
- The definition of “Publisher” to include internet intermediaries such as search engines like Google along with Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms and their responsibilities.
- The serious harm test;
- Defences – new and current;
- Changes to remedies; and
- Recent relevant cases.
